Gioia may be the best pizza in Berkeley, but they definitely aren't the best at following the law. The City of Berkeley just realized the seven-year-old beloved pizza joint never got its restaurant permits. Owners Will and Karen Gioia say they didn't know they needed them when they took over in 2004. They're going to have to operate as take-out only until they get up to speed. [Berkeleyside]
